In a social media update, Woods revealed that he made the decision to undergo surgery in New York, aiming to alleviate the pain and mobility problems in his lower back. This decision comes after consulting with doctors and surgeons, who identified a collapsed disc and related issues through scans.
But here's where it gets personal: Woods has been remarkably open about his health struggles, and this surgery is yet another chapter in his ongoing journey. The procedure is the second this year, following an Achilles tendon rupture in March, and the second back surgery in just over a year.
The first back surgery, in 2014, led to a series of interventions, culminating in a lower back fusion in 2017. Despite these challenges, Woods made an incredible comeback, winning the 2018 Tour Championship and the 2019 Masters, claiming his 15th major title.
However, his body has endured more than just back problems. A devastating car crash in 2021 left his right leg and ankle shattered, and he narrowly avoided amputation. Yet, Woods defied the odds and returned to compete in the 2022 Masters, a testament to his resilience.
And this is the part most people overlook: Woods' determination to play despite these setbacks. Since the car crash, he has participated in only 15 events in four years, including four appearances at the PNC Championship, where he was able to use a cart.
